Interdisciplinary Literacy

Interdisciplinary Literacy is a year-long course that strengthens students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills through meaningful connections across all academic content areas. Students engage with a variety of literary and informational texts while developing strategies to analyze, interpret, and communicate ideas effectively. Instruction emphasizes close reading, evidence-based writing, discussion, research, and collaborative learning to support success across the curriculum.

Throughout the course, students develop academic vocabulary through the study of Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, suffixes, and affixes, enabling them to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words and expand their vocabulary. By applying literacy skills across multiple disciplines, students become more confident readers, writers, and communicators while building the foundational skills needed for success in middle school and future academic pursuits.
